New Jersey Turnpike Cars/Trucks Split & HazMat Bans
- The New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) features dual-dual roadways: commercial vehicles ≥ 10,000 lbs are restricted to the 'Cars-Trucks-Buses' outer lanes only.
- Garden State Parkway strictly prohibits commercial trucks over 10,000 lbs north of Interchange 105.
- All tunnels into New York (Lincoln and Holland Tunnels) strictly ban placarded hazardous materials.
- New Jersey MVC requires an 80% passing score on the 50-question General Knowledge exam.
Official New Jersey Test Format
- Licensing Agency: New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC)
- General Knowledge: 50 questions, 80% to pass (at least 40 correct).
- Air Brakes Endorsement: 25 questions, 80% to pass (required for air-equipped rigs).
- Combination Vehicles: 20 questions, 80% to pass (Class A tractor-trailers).
- Modernized Pre-Trip Inspection: 4-Zone component walkaround + 4-Step air brake test.
