Colorado I-70 Chain Law & Mountain Brake Safety
- Colorado Chain Law (CRS 42-4-106) mandates carrying tire chains on I-70 between mileposts 133 (Dotsero) and 259 (Morrison) from Sept 1 to May 31.
- Steep grades like Eisenhower Tunnel (6-7% grade) mandate stopping at mandatory brake-check areas before descent.
- Runaway truck escape ramps on I-70 and US-6: drivers experiencing brake failure must take the ramp; never swerve back into traffic.
- Colorado DMV requires an 80% passing score (40/50 correct) on the CDL General Knowledge test.
